So, you've found your plot, planned your story and settled upon your characters and their details. Now it's time to write. Isn't it? Last week we looked at where it all begins (read more here). Following on from this, here are five key tips to help you successfully start and finish your manuscript.

1. Give Yourself Permission to Brain Dump

What makes a great book? Interesting characters, sound narrative and fresh ideas all help. Sounds simple, right? ...Wrong. It's actually where many people come unstuck.

Common mistakes include drifting narrative, poorly developed characters and unoriginal ideas. Humour me, let's go back to basics here while I dig out the dictionary definition of what a story actually is: 'An account of imaginary or real people and events told for entertainment.'
